Leadville will become a sister city to Allihies in West Cork, Ireland! This partnership honors the many Irish miners who worked in Leadville in the late 1800s. Many of these Irish immigrants are buried in unmarked, sunken graves in the Catholic Pauper section of Leadville’s Evergreen Cemetery. To remember them, the Irish Network of Colorado is building a memorial in the cemetery that is expected to be complete in 2022.
Join us Sunday, Sept. 26 to honor Leadville’s Irish!
> 10 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. – Evergreen Cemetery Ceremony (Irish Memorial Ceremony, remarks and cemetery tour)
> Noon – Practice St. Patrick’s Parade on Harrison Ave. (Held annually, because a March parade in Leadville is chilly!)
> 1 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. – Twinning Ceremony at the Healy House (Honor the Twinning of Leadville and Allihies, Cork County Ireland. Lunch and reception to follow)
