Friends of Lake County Mission Statement

To partner with local land stakeholders in Lake County to provide opportunities for the community to play a more active role in the regenerative management of the local public lands and to enhance the experiences of all who recreate here. The initial primary partnership for this group involves the Lake County Government and the Leadville Ranger District of the San Isabel National Forest.

Friends of Lake County will accomplish this by:

  • Providing opportunities for meaningful volunteer contributions.
  • Developing and maintaining collaborative partnerships among a diverse group of land managers, local organizations, stakeholders, individuals, and users of the surrounding National Forest and other public lands.
  • Enhancing the public lands experience in Lake County for community and visitors alike while promoting responsible recreation.
  • Advocating for the stewardship of public lands.
  • Creating excellent educational programs for our visitors, residents, and youth to promote, protect and preserve our public lands.
  • Working in partnership with the Leadville Ranger District of the San Isabel National Forest to:
    • Conduct high quality projects to build and maintain trails and cultural resources, improve waste management and recreation infrastructure, promote watershed restoration and perform other services to sustain the Leadville Ranger District.

Continue to help the US Forest Service’s mission of sustaining the health, diversity, and productivity of the nation’s forests and grasslands to meet the needs of present and future generations.
