Wild Wonder Retreat – Yoga and Writing Workshop

August 25, 2023 - August 27, 2023

$350

We are excited to announce Tennessee Pass will be hosting a yoga retreat with a writing workshop and wilderness immersion on August 25-27, Wild Wonder Retreat, featuring aerial yoga by Tanya Miller and writing workshops by Bekah Grim. There will be options for every price range, stay in a private yurt, communal yurt, or tent camp. All meals will be included and prepared by Tennessee Pass chefs. Experience a return to nature, centering of self, and the organic connections that become community.

Tanya’s approach to aerial yoga is informed by her work as an eco-philosopher. She grew up in Vail and spent 30 years as a backpacking guide. She’s a wilderness doula and aerial yoga aficionado. She’s also a Nordic ski instructor at Tenn Pass in the winter. Tanya is the founder of Blue Planet Living Institute. She began her journey with a yoga teacher training in 2005 and found her home in Hatha yoga, a practice of quieting the mind to discover the universe within and a greater cosmic story. Tanya has been teaching aerial yoga since 2015. She sees engaging with the hanging silk fabric as entering into a kind of partnership, where there’s more possibility together. A few of the benefits of aerial yoga include: decompressing the spine, increasing flexibility, calming the nervous system, safety and support for inversions, and laughter. She self-published her own deck of oracle cards, a project which integrated her passion for writing and contemplative photography. She lives in Leadville with her partner and Alaskan Husky named Snow.

Bekah Grim is a writer, dog musher, and river guide. She wrote her first book, Rig to Flip, about her 10 years as a whitewater raft guide on the Arkansas River. Her second book is about dogsledding and loss, the Broken Ones. She has written, produced, and directed two plays with her partner Blue, Bitterbush: A Family Saga and Bitterbush: A Retreat, comedies performed to sold out audiences in Leadville. Her and Blue are at work on Bitterbush 3, a space odyssey. She was the subject of a documentary, Mother Daughter, about her work as a dogsledding guide, which won the Audience Choice award at Cannes Film Festival. She has an MFA in Nonfiction from the University of Iowa. She is the Marketing Director for Tennessee Pass. She will be teaching workshops at the retreat on the relationship between walking and writing, studying the 19th century flaneurs, who were literary saunterers in Paris. Thoreau’s famous essay “Walking” will also be explored. Her inspiration is saguaro cactus, the Talking Heads, burrowing owls, and helping others develop their voice as writers.
