Great Colorado Time Capsule in Leadville

The Great Colorado Time Capsule is going on tour and will be visiting Leadville on Thursday, August 13th!
Created in recognition of Colorado’s 150th anniversary and America’s 250th anniversary, the project is collecting letters, photographs, artwork, stories and artifacts that will give people in 2076 a snapshot of life in Colorado in 2026.
The capsule is scheduled to visit Leadville from 4:00pm to 5:00pm on August 13, 2026 and will be parked at 809 Harrison Ave, across from City Hall at Iris Moon Emporium
The Great Colorado Time Capsule is visiting your community as part of a statewide initiative to preserve the stories, people, places and experiences that define Colorado in 2026. Residents are invited to contribute letters, photographs, artwork, community stories and artifacts for inclusion. The capsule will be permanently installed at The Ranch Events Complex in Loveland and opened in 2076, giving future Coloradans a glimpse of life during Colorado’s sesquicentennial year and America’s 250th anniversary.

Submissions Should Be
• No larger than 12” in any one dimension
• Clean and completely dry
• Clearly labeled with the contributor’s name, community and a short description
• Durable enough for long-term storage
• Free of food residue, moisture, pests, mold and strong odors
• Accompanied by a copy rather than an irreplaceable original whenever possible

• Loose batteries or battery-powered devices
• Items containing personal financial, medical or confidential information
• Anything illegal, perishable, wet, moldy or unsafe to store
