Leadville & Twin Lakes New Free Weekend Shuttle, Sit Back & Relax!

Leadville and Twin Lakes are surrounded by the great outdoors and offer plenty of opportunities for individuals to step off the beaten bath and connect with nature on foot, bike, ATV, watercraft and more! But sometimes you need a little help getting from point A to point B and the bus systems servicing Lake County can help!

The Leadville to Twin Lakes free weekend shuttle!

Connecting the historic town of Leadville with the scenic village of Twin Lakes. The Twin Lakes Summer Shuttle will operate every Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 am through 7:00 pm, May 30, 2026 to September 27, 2026, providing a fun, stress-free way to explore this treasured corner of the Colorado Rockies. Bike rack available on shuttle!

The Leadville stop is at 302 Harrison Avenue, next to the Tabor Opera House Building and the Twin Lakes Village stop is in the Visitor Center Parking Lot. See bus time table below or track it’s current location on the Lake County Transit website. Parking is available behind the Opera House in Leadville and at the Visitor Center in Twin Lakes. Let someone else do the driving and spend your time taking in the views along the way.

Starting 7/10/26. The free Leadville-Twin Lakes Shuttle will operate Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Making stops in Twin Lakes, Leadville and the Tennessee Pass Trailhead. This update is to help assist Colorado Trail and Continental Divide Trail hikers navigate the current trail closure between Twin Lakes and Tennessee Pass. New, temporary schedule below:

Enjoy a Day of History

The shuttle links two key historic areas telling the story of mountain life during the peak of Colorado’s mining in the late 1880s. Visit one of Leadville’s seven museums that are within walking distance of the Harrison Avenue bus stop (maximum distance of 7 city blocks) and complete self guided historic downtown walking tour along the way learning about Leadville’s historic buildings and heritage (tour available online and in print).

Hop the shuttle to Twin Lakes and download the heritage guide or pick up a walking tour map at the Twin Lakes Red Rooster Visitor Center to learn about Twin Lakes (previously known as Dayton City) history when it was a transportation hub with a toll road to Aspen connecting mining communities before the arrival of the railroads.

Bus to Brunch or Live Music in Twin Lakes

The Twin Lakes Inn offers daily brunch and new this year is hosting live music events! Check their Facebook page for more information.

Explore the Outdoors

The Moache Trail (1 mile out and back) and the hike to Mount Bump (1/2 mile out and bike) are trails that start out from the Twin Lakes Red Rooster Visitor Center. Go up to Mount Bump to check out the views of the lake inlets and the surrounding mountains of the Sawatch Range. Or weave past beaver ponds and brush toward Twin Lakes shoreline for water access and mirror top water views along the Moache Trail.

Want to step up the speed? The shuttle has a bike rack! Depart from Leadville and bring your bike along, ride southern trails along the lakeshore or sections of the famous Leadville 100 race.

Following your outdoor adventure leave time to relax in Twin Lakes Village, taking in the patio views with a drink and a meal from one of Twin Lakes local food vendors.

Thru-Hiker Connection

Step away from The Colorado and Continental Divide Trail for a zero day in Leadville or Twin Lakes. Both offer amentities and restock options for hikers. The shuttle makes the weekend commute smoother. Allowing you to rest up, resupply and easily return to the trail.
