8 Great Spring Trip Ideas

        A spring break at Leadville and Twin Lakes, Colorado, means wonderful winter fun and affordable prices. Whether you’re vacationing with family or friends, kids or adults, you can find fun and relaxation at the Top of the Rockies. Here are seven spectacular spring break ideas.

        1) Hit the Slopes at Ski Cooper

        Like to ski or ride? Check out Ski Cooper for affordable access to uncrowded slopes. Cooper is open seven days a week through Sunday, April 16, 2023. To learn to ski or board or to improve your skills, sign up for lessons for the whole family.

        2) Ride the Train

        New this year, the Leadville Railroad is open in winter! Hop aboard the Winter Express and glide through a snowy forest with fantastic views. Trains depart Thursdays through Saturdays at 1:30 p.m. until April 1. 2023. This two-hour trip through a winter wonderland is perfect for the whole family.

        3) Go Dogsledding

        For a unique spring break, zoom along the snow behind an enthusiastic pack of sled dogs. With your new furry friends, you’ll dash across the snow to see gorgeous mountain views. Dogsledding is fun for the whole family!

        4) Go Snowzipping

        Did you know that you can zipline in winter? Fly through the frozen forest. Look out to snow-covered peaks from over 11,000′. Ride to the deck in a snow coach, and warm up with hot chocolate. Make a day of it with a snowzipping / snowmobiling package that includes lunch! Zipline tours are for ages 7 and up.

        5) Go Snowmobiling

        Snowmobile and ATV tours are a great way to explore Leadville’s historic East Side Mining District and the surrounding hills. Many of our tours are great for families. Vroom, vroom!

        6) Warm Up at the Museum

        The National Mining Hall of Fame and Museum lets kids of all ages explore! You can walk through life-sized mine replicas. See gems, precious metals, and fluorescent rocks. Check out dioramas of miners hacking at hillsides, a model mining train layout, and much more.

        7) Enjoy Our Groomed Winter Trails

        In the Leadville area, snowfall continues into early May. You can also cross-country ski, snowshoe, or fatbike on our 100 miles of groomed winter trails. All are affordable, and most are free! Equipment rentals are available in town. Come see us for a spring break you won’t forget!
