Mineral 1886
Mineral 1886 opened its doors for breakfast earlier this month. The restaurant, located inside the Historic Delaware hotel, is the first phase to complete of a 2-year, full hotel renovation. The approach to the beautiful design for Mineral is much like the menu, which aims to be simple, classic, and refined. The owners hope their investment in Leadville will provide visitors, hotel guests, and the local community with a delicious offering at reasonable prices. The kitchen is being led by a local resident, Chef Diana Gutierrez, who studied culinary arts in Mexico. Gutierrez has worked under notable chefs in Tijuana and San Diego and she now brings her talent to the hotel kitchen. “It’s an honor to serve food in such an incredible atmosphere. I think we’ve done a great job of making the needed updates, while still honoring the past.” Mineral is part of owners Monty Moran and David Chrisman, who are both longtime restauranteurs, vision to be a part of Leadville’s future. Their goal is to protect the history, charm, and grit of Leadville’s extraordinary past while creating careers and opportunities for many locals. “We didn’t feel it was time to be fully retired, so we looked for the chance to get involved with hospitality once more. We’re not developers looking to make a fortune off our investment, we truly want to be a part of the community and see our team grow and blossom,” says Chrisman. Moran added, “Hospitality is truly one of the most important gifts we can give each other in this life. It gives comfort, makes others feel welcome, and builds the family feeling, the human connection, that is central to any life well-lived.”
The large breakfast menu includes chicken and waffles, avocado toast, biscuits and gravy, the house donut made daily, freshly grated hash browns, and the Leadville 100, a maple-butter hash brown skillet bowl that includes eggs, breakfast meats, and smothered in your choice of duck-fat hollandaise, sausage gravy, or green chile. Mineral is open for breakfast from 7am to 11am daily and plans to open for lunch and dinner soon. The restaurant is located at the rear of the Historic Delaware hotel at 700 Harrison Avenue.
