Boating & Paddling

GET OUT ON THE WATER

With some of Colorado’s largest glacial lakes, Lake County is aptly named. Boat and fish on the shimmering blue waters of Twin Lakes and Turquoise Lake by boat, canoe, kayak or SUP. Or discover the ghost resort of Interlaken, once a summer haven for the wealthy and now a fascinating collection of turn-of-the-century buildings, via a special boat tour.

Bringing your own boat? Learn more about boat access locations at the Leadville Ranger District.  All motorized boats must go through inspection at the boat ramp.

Visit the Matchless Boat Ramp at Turquoise Lake or the Dexter Boat Ramp at Twin Lakes, open seasonally – call the Leadville Ranger Station for updates 719-486-0749

RENT A STAND UP PADDLEBOARD (SUP), CANOE OR KAYAK

Colorado boating regulations require that adults carry a life jacket/PFD on the vessel (including canoes, kayaks and paddleboards) and children under the age of 12 must always wear a life jacket/PFD at all times when on the water.

High elevation water sources are cold (even in the summer). Sudden immersion in cold water can cause gasping, inhalation of water, and hypothermia resulting in unconsciousness or swimming failure as muscles become numb. Life jackets help keep your head above water and airway clear of water. Stay safe and protect yourself.
