Located in the historic Evergreen Cemetery, the Irish Miners Memorial honors approximately 1,300 miners from the Silver Rush days, buried in unmarked, sunken graves in the cemetery’s pauper section. The memorial is an immersive structure that centers around a statue of a miner kneeled before a large slab of granite. The miner, Liam, who was created in Ireland by Terry Brennan and shipped to Leadville, is holding a harp in one hand and a pickaxe in the other. Along the path are glass panels that list the names of immigrants who were buried in the now-sunken graves nearby.
