Terrain around the Sawatch Range can be highly avalanche-prone, so always check the forecast from the Colorado Avalanche Information Center before entering snow-covered areas. Carry proper avalanche rescue gear, including a beacon, probe, and shovel, and know how to use them. Plan your route carefully in advance and avoid steep or uncertain terrain when conditions are unstable.
