Summer Fun In Leadville And Twin Lakes

May 27, 2022

In Leadville and Twin Lakes, most summer is in full swing! Here are a few of the many fun things to do. : @shel8y

1) VISIT TWIN LAKES

Check out cool local businesses in Twin Lakes village. Stop by the Red Rooster Visitor Center for ideas of things to do.

The scenic byway to Independence Pass, Hwy. 82 from Twin Lakes to Aspen, is open for summer. Check out the majestic views from 12,095′.

2) RIDE THE TRAIN

For a trip you’ll treasure, take the train! Catch breathtaking views of high peaks from the Leadville Railroad. Hear fascinating tales of Leadville’s history from our friendly conductor. For even more wow, check out the wildflower special and Devils Tail BBQ rides.

3) REDISCOVER THE TABOR OPERA HOUSE

Live performances return to the Tabor Opera House this summer, after a two-year pandemic hiatus. Tour the Tabor to see pieces from the finest collection of historic stage scenery in North America and hear legendary stories. English- and Spanish-language tours run weekends, now through September. : @thecraighensel

The Tabor is part of the brand-new Colorado Historic Opera Houses Circuit, launched in June 2022. The Circuit connects five opera houses in gorgeous mountain towns. All are on the National Register of Historic Places, and all offer spectacular live entertainment. Learn more about visiting these historic gems!

4) EXPLORE LEADVILLE’S MUSEUMS

This summer, discover Leadville’s museums! Learn about Leadville history, discover stories of a pioneering Jewish community, marvel at an iconic opera house, and more.

Be sure to see the new temporary exhibit, Pioneering the Field: Women in Mining, at the National Mining Hall of Fame and Museum. Discover the impressive contributions of these women–including Leadville’s own Brenda Miller, who worked at the nearby Climax Mine. Then take Brenda’s tour at the Matchless Mine.

5) HELP PROTECT LEADVILLE AND TWIN LAKES!

As you enjoy our great outdoors, help us protect the natural resources we all love at Leadville and Twin Lakes! Camping this summer? Please always check for and follow fire bans, to protect our forests and homes.

Please take our Adventure by Nature pledge to stay on the trail, be respectful, recreate responsibly, and leave no trace. We’ll continue to share ways to do just that!
