🟢 Easier Rides

Mineral Belt Trail

Difficulty: Easy to Moderate | Distance: 11.6 miles (paved loop)
For a Leadville classic, ride the famous Mineral Belt Trail, a 12-mile paved loop that circles town and offers stunning views of historic mining relics and the snowcapped Sawatch Range. This car-free, gently rolling trail is great for beginners, families, or riders acclimating to altitude.

🔵 Moderate Rides

Turquoise Lake Road

Difficulty: Moderate | Distance: ~15 miles (paved loop)
Ride the quiet, winding road around glimmering Turquoise Lake, where smooth pavement, cool breezes, and mountain reflections create a perfect scenic spin. With around 1,000 feet of elevation gain, this route is great for intermediate riders looking to stretch their legs or enjoy a peaceful training ride. Mix mountain and road biking by adding in sections of the Turquoise Lake Shoreline Trail or the Cloud City Wheelers Turquoise Lake Trail Network.

🔴 Advanced Climbs & Alpine Passes

Top of the Rockies Scenic Byway Passes

Difficulty: Hard | Choose Your Climb:

  • Fremont Pass: ~1,500 ft climb from Leadville (11,318 ft summit)
  • Tennessee Pass: ~1,100 ft climb with sweeping views and low traffic
  • Independence Pass (from Twin Lakes): A steep, switchback-filled ascent to 12,095 feet—Colorado’s second-highest paved pass

Colorado Courage Classic Bicycle Tour

July 19-20, 2025

Difficulty: Hard | Distance: Varies by route

The Colorado Courage Classic is more than a bike tour—it’s a moving show of support for kids and families served by Children’s Hospital Colorado. Held every July, this beloved ride winds through Colorado’s high country, with Leadville often featured as a scenic stop along the route. Riders of all levels form teams and raise vital funds to support pediatric care, research, and programs.

Participants can choose from multiple route options, many of which include significant mountain climbs like Tennessee Pass and Fremont Pass. Whether you ride for a loved one, a patient, or the cause, the Courage Classic combines challenging climbs, sweeping views, and unmatched camaraderie—all in support of world-class pediatric care.

Bonus: 100% of every dollar raised goes directly to Children’s Hospital Colorado programs, helping ensure that kids across the state get the care they need.

Copper Triangle

August 1-2, 2025

Difficulty: Hard | Distance: 79 miles 

Based at Copper Mountain Resort in the heart of the Rockies, the Copper Triangle is a cycling classic that blends high-altitude adventure with postcard-worthy views. This iconic 79-mile loop crests three major mountain passes—Fremont Pass (11,318’), Tennessee Pass (10,424’), and Vail Pass (10,662’)—with a total elevation gain of 6,500 feet. Riders traverse the Top of the Rockies Scenic Byway, cruise through historic Leadville, and climb their way through some of Colorado’s most legendary alpine terrain.
