Race Day Game Plan for Supporters

Behind every great racer is a great support team. Race day has arrived, and as a supporter, you have also worked hard and made sacrifices to get to the starting line. Now the race has begun and you’ve got some time to relax, replenish and take advantage of your race-cation. Below are activity suggestions that will keep you close to the finish line while taking some you time.

Made it out the door and to the start line, cheered your heart out as they headed out. Your energy is waning, it’s time to replenish.

Leadville and Twin Lakes have a rich history and offer many ways to experience it. Visit one of 8 museums, take a self guided tour or stop in the Visitor Center to hear the stories of the past.

Get the wiggles out and who says race families don’t deserve rewards too?

  • National Mining Hall of Fame & Matchless Mine – One ticket, two museums. Learn about the importance of mining with a self guided  surface tour of one of Leadville’s wealthiest silver mines, then go through mock mines and see minerals on display  in the museum. Great for families!
  • Leadville National Fish Hatchery – just south of Leadville is the best access to nature for families. Nature hike, picnic areas, visitor center and bring quarters for fish feeding. 
  • Rocky Top Toys & Gifts – Toys and games for all ages and occasions this welcoming toy store is a favorite!
  • Fire on the Mountain – No appointment needed to come in and paint your own pottery. Create a personalized gift for your racer. Or purchase art supplies to go – coloring books and art kids.
  • Blueflower Candies & Provisions –  Sweets and smiles guaranteed.
  • D’Love (Khafe 11) Coffee & Ice Cream – Ice cream and gelato, hot dogs and pretzels, shakes and sundaes. All the kids’ favorites!

Off-Harrison Hidden Gems: Local Favorites Worth the Turn

Explore beyond the main drag with these insider spots:

  • Pastime Saloon – A historic watering hole with classic charm, craft cocktails and patio views
  • Zero Day Coffee – Good vibes, great people and delicious coffee
  • Ale Yak Food & Beer Garden – On the north side of Leadville relax with spectacular views, a cold beverage, yard games and rotating food trucks.
  • Cloud City Modern Meadery – Just south of Harrison Ave, tucked-away spot perfect to relax and enjoy mead. Hot day? Try it in slushy form.
  • Casa Blanca – Family run, authentic New Mexican food, just a short block from Harrison.
  • The Grill – A few blocks from Harrison this local favorite has a full bar, indoor and outdoor setting and all your favorite “New Mex, Tex Mex and Mex Mex” foods

Twin Lakes Favorites

 A scenic drive rewards you with unique shops and local pride:

  • Tenderfoot Farm Market – Your local stop for fresh eggs, bacon, home decor and artisanal goods. In their garden the Tenderfoot food cart offers hot dogs, brats and grilled cheese.
  • Shooting Star Gallery – A charming art gallery featuring local artists, handmade crafts, and regional flair.
  • Twin Lakes General Store – The heart of the village—fuel up, grab gear, or just chat with friendly locals before your next leg.
  • Roadhouse Lodge & Cafe – Coffee, ice cream and patio views. This quant coffee shop is a great place to unwind.
  • Twin Lakes Inn & Food Truck Patio – The historic inn provides breakfast daily and on their patio Punky’s and Indy Pass Pies food trucks offer food that can’t be beat.
