6 Great Ways To Play In Leadville’S Spring Snow

Spring snow is still deep and rideable in Leadville, Colorado. And we’re often still topped with a layer of freshies! If you’d like to play in fresh snow and warm sunshine, Leadville is just the place. Here are six great ways to play in our abundant spring snow.

1) Snowmobile: Take a snowmobile tour or bring your own sled! Zoom around Turquoise Lake or Leadville’s East Side Mining District on free groomed trails. Or use them as a jumping-off point for the backcountry. Check out what HeidiTown.com had to say about snowmobiling near Leadville!

2) Fatbike: Leadville has nearly 100 miles of free groomed trails open to fatbikes, from the Timberline trails groomed by the Cloud City Wheelers to the East Side Mining District, Mineral Belt Trail, and Turquoise Lake. Rentals available at Cycles of Life in downtown Leadville and at Tennessee Pass Nordic Center, which also has fatbike trails for a small trail fee. Or join the East Side Epic fatbike race on Saturday, April 20 starting at 9 a.m. It’s the last of this year’s Leadville Winter Mountain Bike Series races.

3) Backcountry Skiing: After a deep-snow winter, the snowpack is settling and the backcountry skiing is great! Hit the slopes without a lift or crowds.

4) Nordic Skiing and Snowshoeing: The Mineral Belt Trail, above-treeline East Side Mining District, and more of Leadville’s extensive network of free groomed trails are still covered in snow–and still being groomed regularly for your skiing fun!

5) Snow Ziplining: Did you know that the Top of the Rockies Zipline near Leadville is the highest zipline in the country that’s open for snow zipping? Take a spine-tingling flight over snow with views of Colorado’s highest peaks. As spring slowly warms the Rockies, you can enjoy this amazing scenery with warm sun on your face!

6) Backcountry Hut or Yurt Trip: Now’s a great time to skin, Nordic ski, or snowshoe to a backcountry hut or yurt. Gather friends and family for a spring trip to remember!
