Directions to Trailhead
From Harrison Avenue take west 6th Street turning right on to McWethy Drive/County Road 4. Follow County Road 4 to Turquoise Lake Recreation Area. Continue across Sugar Loafin’ Dam and drive approximately 3.4 miles where you will see County Road 4/Hagerman Pass dirt road entrance to the left. Continue up Hagerman Pass for approximately 4.7 miles past the Native Lakes/Windsor Lakes parking area the parking area for Colorado Midland Trail is on the right. Be aware that the road becomes 4 wheel drive accessible only shortly after the trailhead. Cross the road to begin the hike.
*This trail can also be accessed from the Windsor Lake trailhead, shortening the trail slightly instead of following the old railroad path.

Dirt parking lot on right side of County Road 4 to Hagerman Pass.
Why It’s a Gem
This scenic trail is a part of railroad history! Portions of the trail follow the path of the Colorado Midland Railway, through the ghost town of Douglas City and past Opal Lake. The Colorado Midland train was a standard gauge that covered 350 miles and went to elevations above 11,000 feet. Incredible views along with meadows and wooded areas it is the perfect mix of history and nature.
